WOMEN'S RESOURCE AND CRISIS CENTER

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center has three distinctive program   areas:

Each provides direct services which are aimed at ending violence against women and children.  Although many of the activities are independent of each other, it is important to note that program areas have a symbiotic relationship.  Our goal is to assist in removing barriers that may hinder victims of abuse as they may attempt to access the criminal justice system and medical and social services; provide emotional support to victims so that they can sustain the effort to cooperate with the criminal justice system; and advocate for the best interests of children who are caught up in the court system through no fault of their own due to abuse and neglect.

WRCC works in collaboration with the Galveston County Criminal District Attorney's Office and 14 additional local law enforcement agencies to help victims of abuse access protective orders and follow through with criminal prosecution.  In 1996 over 175,000 incidents of family violence were reported to law enforcement agencies across Texas, an increase of 6% from the previous year.  As more and more women report family violence crimes to law enforcement, the need for services and assistance increases.
