Sheriff sales are held the first Tuesday of each month at 10 am
in the Galveston County Courthouse, 722 Moody Avenue in
Galveston.
Properties that will be auctioned are advertised in the
Galveston County Daily News, and are listed on bulletin boards
at the County offices at least 21 days prior to a sale. A
listing, complete with map locations of the properties and other
pertinent information, is available at each branch of the County
Tax Office and is posted each month on our website (see below).
You may contact our office and ask to be added to our email
distribution list.
Sheriff Sale listings may be purchased for the cost of printing
or a copy may be emailed free of charge at your request. A copy
is also available online at the Sheriff’s Department website (http://www2.co.galveston.tx.us/sheriff/)
(and as stated previously is also available on our website).
When attending a Sheriff Sale, you will need to check in prior
to the sale to obtain a bidder number.
Payment in full is required by 2:00 pm the day of the sale in
the form of cash, cashier’s check, or money order payable to the
Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. Financing is NOT available.
Absentee bidding is not permitted. Properties not sold in the
auction are struck off to one of the taxing entities and may
then be purchased from that entity. All inquiries regarding
properties struck off to the County should be directed to Mark
E. Ciavaglia via e-mail at
mark.ciavaglia@publicans.com
When a property is purchased at the Sheriff’s Sale, a Sheriff’s
Deed is issued in the name of the eligible Buyer only. The
Sheriff’s Office will retain the Sheriff’s Deed and will forward
it to the County Clerk’s Office for recording once the eligible
Buyer has obtained a Certificate of Eligibility from the
Galveston County Tax Assessor Collector’s Office. (See
below regarding Certificates of Eligibility). A separate
money order or cashier’s check in the amount of $20.00, payable
to Mary Ann Daigle, County Clerk is required at the sale for
recording of the deed.
Redemption Periods
Redemption periods begin at the date of the recording of the
deed. Homestead and agricultural exempt properties may be
redeemed within two (2) years. All other properties may be
redeemed within six (6) months of sale. Redemption fees are as

purchasing property at a Sheriff Sale obtain a Certificate of
Eligibility from the Tax Assessor Collector. A $10.00 processing
fee is assessed at the time of application. The application must
be submitted after property is purchased from the sale.

shown below.
